Beefs

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 20 September 2026

Beefs is a mobile app where you challenge other people to a beef - any competition, debate or duel - and settle it together. This policy explains what personal data the app collects, why it is collected, who it is shared with, and how you can get it deleted.

The short version. We collect the account and profile details you type in, the profile picture you pick, and the beefs, messages, results and votes you create in the app. We use them to run the app and nothing else. We do not run ads, analytics or tracking SDKs, and we never sell your data. Your profile and your public beefs are visible to other users of the app - everything else is private to you and the person you are beefing with.

1. Who we are

Beefs (Android package and iOS bundle identifier com.jovansreco.beefs) is an independent app published by Jovan Sreco. For the purposes of the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation, we are the data controller for the personal data described here.

You can reach us about anything in this policy, including access or deletion requests, at supportbeefs@gmail.com.

2. Data we collect

All of it comes either from what you enter in the app or from what the app needs in order to work. We do not buy data about you from anyone.

Beefs and the content you create

Photos

When you tap to choose a profile picture, the app asks your device for permission to open your photo library. Only the single image you select is uploaded; the app does not scan, browse or upload anything else from your device, and it does not use your camera. Profile pictures are stored in a publicly readable bucket so they can be shown next to your name in the app.

Subscription (Beefs Pro)

If you buy a subscription, the purchase is processed by Apple's App Store or Google Play. We receive only a subscription status (active, expired, cancelled) linked to an app-specific purchase identifier, through our subscription provider. Your payment card, billing address and full store account details never reach us.

Technical data

Our hosting provider records standard request logs when the app talks to our backend, including your IP address, timestamp, the endpoint called and error details. These logs exist for security, abuse prevention and debugging, and they are kept for a short period.

3. What other users can see

Beefs is a social app, so part of what you enter is deliberately visible to others. It is worth being precise about which part:

What Who can see it
Display name, @handle, location, favourite categories, profile picture Any signed-in user of the app
Email address, password Nobody but you - never shown to other users
A public beef: its terms, timeline, messages, offers and result Any signed-in user, plus anyone who opens a share link to that beef (a share link works only for public beefs)
A private beef and everything inside it Only the two participants
Votes on a public beef Participants and spectators see the totals; your individual vote is not shown to the participants
Subscription status Nobody but you

Choose "public" only for a beef you are happy for strangers to read. While both accounts exist, a concluded beef is a read-only transcript - messages cannot be edited or deleted after the fact. If either participant deletes their account, that beef is removed for both of them (see Deleting your account).

4. Why we use your data and our legal bases

If you are in the EU, UK or another region with similar law, these are the legal bases we rely on:

5. What we do not do

6. Who we share data with

We share data only with the service providers that make the app work. They process it on our instructions under a data processing agreement, and only for the purpose listed:

Provider What it does for us Their policy
Supabase Authentication, database, file storage for profile pictures, backend functions, logs supabase.com/privacy
RevenueCat Managing and validating subscription status revenuecat.com/privacy
Apple App distribution and in-app purchases on iOS, and signing you in if you choose Sign in with Apple apple.com/legal/privacy
Google App distribution and in-app purchases on Android, and signing you in if you choose Sign in with Google policies.google.com/privacy
Expo Building the app expo.dev/privacy

We may also disclose data if we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to protect our rights or someone's safety. If the app is ever transferred to a new owner, this policy travels with it and you will be told before anything changes.

7. International transfers

Our providers may store and process data on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Where data leaves the European Economic Area or the UK, the transfer relies on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or another approved safeguard put in place by the provider.

8. How long we keep data

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:

Email supportbeefs@gmail.com from the address on your account and we will respond within 30 days. There is no charge. If you are in the EEA or the UK you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

If you are a California resident: we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA/CPRA, and we will never discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.

10. Deleting your account and data

You can delete your account in the app, from your profile. That takes effect immediately. You can also email supportbeefs@gmail.com from the email address you signed up with, with the subject "Delete my account". We will confirm and complete the deletion within 30 days.

Deleting an account removes that user from the live database. Related rows are deleted with it, so there is no leftover profile and no leftover beef in that person's name.

What is deleted:

What is kept, and in what form:

Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. Cancel it in your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings, otherwise it will keep renewing.

11. Children

Beefs is not intended for children. You must be at least 13 years old to use it, or 16 if you are in the European Economic Area or the UK. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone below that age; if you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.

12. Security

We take the usual precautions and a few specific ones:

No system is perfectly secure. If we ever discover a breach that affects your personal data, we will handle it as the law requires. Where that includes telling the people affected, we will use the email address on your account.

Everything inside a beef - its terms, rules, stake, messages, offer notes and results - is written by users, not by us. We do not review it before it appears and we do not check it for accuracy; the person who posted it is responsible for it. A stake is an arrangement between the two participants - Beefs does not hold, transfer or enforce it.

Messages, rules, stakes and offer notes can contain links that other users typed. Tapping one opens it in your browser, outside Beefs. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.

14. Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal data, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above. Where a change is significant, we will also make it visible in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Beefs after a change means you accept the updated policy.

15. Contact

Questions, requests or complaints: supportbeefs@gmail.com. This is a small team. We reply when we can, usually within a few days, not the moment a message arrives. Blocking someone in the app takes effect immediately and does not wait on us.
